Rodney keeps a basket on the dresser—made by a long-dead but not forgotten Athosian artisan—where he puts his radio, multi-tool, watch and keys. There are only a few places on Atlantis that are secured with old-fashioned padlocks—sensitive places that they’d rather no one gain access to without leaving some evidence behind. There was a time when Jennifer’s hairclips littered the bottom of the basket, and he’d tolerated that for the short time they’d lived together before everything had imploded. He’d made sure to dump all of her little hair things in a random box when she was packing.
The first time John had spent the night, all of his things had been thrown off randomly in their hurry to get laid. But when the fire died down a little and comfort settled in—his things started to land with Rodney’s in the basket—radio, pocket knife, watch, and dog tags. He liked all of their things piled together in a mess of technology and metal.
He was so caught up in staring at their stuff in the basket that he didn’t notice that the shower had turned off. Hands settled on his hips and John pressed a soft kiss against the side of his neck before peeking at the contents of the basket.
“No.” Rodney shook his head. “Nothing…I just.” He huffed and reached out for his watch. He put it briskly but relaxed against John. “I don’t mind sharing my basket with you.”
Sheppard laughed a little. “Is that a big deal?”
“I don’t know, maybe.” Rodney shrugged. “I don’t share well.”
“You don’t say,” John exclaimed.
McKay nudged him with an elbow. “But it’s different with you. I just like us.”
John smiled against his neck. “I like us, too. A lot.”
